 National Society of Black Engineers

The National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE), with more than 30,000 members, is one of the largest student-managed organizations in the country. NSBE is comprised of more than 233 chapters on college and university campuses, 65 Alumni Extension chapters nationwide and 89 Pre-College chapters, geographically divided into six regions.

The Jacobs ESSSA Group earned the NSBE Alumni Extension Signature Sponsor Award as one of only two corporations nationwide who sponsored awareness of the space industry within the NSBE community at their annual convention. Jacobs has also been an active sponsor and supporter of the North Alabama Alumni Extension chapter (N AL NSBE-AE) Annual Scholarship and Awards Banquet. The local chapter was chartered in 1990 to increase minority participation and excellence in the fields of Engineering and Applied Sciences.

Jacobs ESSSA Group employee Chris Beatty, who first joined the NSBE in 1993 while attending Georgia Institute of Technology, continued his chapter participation at Clark Atlanta University and the University of Tennessee Space Institute, where he became chapter president. Chris joined the North Alabama Alumni Extension chapter where he has served as assistant programs chair, vice president and president. He organized the chapter’s Black History Month Program for area middle schools, which was recognized with the NSBE’s Program of the Year Award. He also initiated the N AL NSBE-AE Operation Partnership, a program designed to forge relationships with local corporations. Chris currently serves as the chapter’s scholarship committee chair.

 Tuskegee Engineering Council

According to a national survey, Tuskegee University ranks fifth in producing black future engineers. Their College of Engineering, Architecture & Physical Sciences has five decades of tradition of providing post-secondary studies and producing graduates who posess technical talent for industry, government and academia. In May 2009, this leading HBCU institution asked Randy Lycans, Jacobs ESSSA Group General Manger and Jacobs Technology Vice President, to serve on the Tuskegee Engineering Council, extending the partnership that Jacobs has established with this institution.

Diversity is the uniqueness that everyone, from subcontractors to employees, brings to fulfill Jacobs' Core Values. The Jacobs ESSSA Group includes more than 500 teammates and specialty subcontractors, many from Small Business, Small Disadvantaged Businesses, Woman Owned Small Businesses, Small Veteran Owned Business and Small HubZone Businesses.

In May 2009, the Jacobs ESSSA Group received the prestigious Small Business Administration's 2009 Dwight D. Eisenhower Award of Excellence, which recognizes large prime contractors that have excelled in their utilization of small businesses as subcontractors. Dr. Ron Belz, a senior director in the ESSSA Group, is certified as a Supplier Diversity Professional and served as the Group's Small Business Liaison Officer. He is an active member of the Marshall Space Flight Center's Prime Contractor's Supplier Council (MPCSC), having served a two-year term as chairperson, and participating on the MPCSC's "Marketing a Prime Contractor" panel as Small Business conferences nationwide.

 National Association of Colleges & Employers

Jacobs in a long-standing member of the National Association of Colleges & Employers (NACE), an organization which serves college recruiting and career services professionals. The NACE Diversity Job Choices magazine, which is distributed to 105 Historically Black Colleges & Universities, 175 Hispanic-Serving Institutions, 27 Tribal Colleges and 47 INROADS offices in major urban areas, is a primary resource for the Jacobs ESTS Group's targeted recruitment efforts.
